Open Parachute Sebastian Foundation Hand in Hand Ballarat

The mental health of our Aussie kids has never been so important!

In partnership with The Sebastian Foundation, Hand in Hand Ballarat donations will assist in funding the roll-out of the 'Open Parachute' program in local and regional Victorian schools, and costs just $15 per student.

Let’s be clear: mental health is real and should not be a taboo topic. Regardless of culture, age, gender, social and financial status, mental health knows no bias.  It can impact anyone, so never assume that you, your friends or your loved ones are immune.

Who is Hand in Hand Ballarat?

    PilatesFit Plus - Leah

With lived experience in mental health, I believe deeply in a community approach, because real change happens when we stand together. My passion lies in reducing stigma, creating generational change, and ensuring our young people feel supported, understood, and never alone.

In today’s world, young people face pressures like never before - academic demands, social media comparisons and the weight of silent struggles. Too often, stigma stops them from speaking out. The old “toughen up” mindset doesn’t help. Mental health can be uncomfortable to talk about, but it’s something we must face head-on. Through Hand in Hand, we can break down barriers, build brighter futures, and create a community where every voice is heard.

Not so long ago I spoke to a close friend who is a local school vice principal. The conversation we had was confronting and extremely emotional for me. It made me aware of how big of an issue mental health is for the whole school communities. We need to suport the youth of today with this very real problem and help them deal with the challenges they face. Awareness of mental health issues is the first step, it is time we overcome the mental health stigma and deal with it in a positive way.

We are a pasionate gym and strive to make a positive and healthy impact on our community. Hand in Hand ties in with everything we are about. We believe that the youth of today are the future and we are extremely passionate about helping to provide a mental health program in schools so that each child is equipped with the tools to understand and problem solve issues that arise in their lives.

Living in Ballarat with a young family, I have a deep passion for mental health and supporting others in our community. My involvement in the junior sporting scene has given me firsthand insight into the challenges our young people face. Too many are struggling in silence, and they deserve every bit of help and support we can offer.

I believe strongly in the impact of the Open Parachute program. It equips children with the tools they need to navigate daily life struggles, build confidence, and develop empathy skills that allow them not only to support themselves but also those around them

I am a passionate advocate for youth mental health, driven by a belief that every young person deserves the chance to be their best self. My focus is on supporting initiatives that build emotional resilience, foster connection, and create safe spaces where our youth can learn and grow.

I’m especially committed to primary prevention, empowering individuals with the skills and confidence they need before crisis hits. That’s why I’m proud to support the Open Parachute program. By equipping young people with the tools to understand themselves, manage challenges, and build strong foundations, we can shift the trajectory of mental health outcomes for future generations.
